Marathon Beach Party & Fireworks Show
For one of the Keys’ largest and longest fireworks displays, families gather for a day of activities in Marathon including a patriotic parade that begins around 10:30 a.m. and proceeds from Marathon High School on Sombrero Beach Road (MM 50 oceanside) to free-admission Sombrero Beach, where a daylong celebration features food, drink, kids’ crafts and entertainment, capped off after dark with fireworks.

Mel Fisher Days
Come commemorate the anniversary of Mel Fisher’s famous 16-year search for the Spanish galleon Atocha and the discovery of the Atocha Mother Load . Annual Dock Party at Schooner Wharf Bar, with tours of salvaging vessels, raffle, silent and live auctions and live entertainment. Proceeds from these events are to benefit Wesley House Family Services, Inc.

34th Annual Underwater Music Festival
The nationally-acclaimed submerged songfest is held at Looe Key Reef in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. The marine musical event is set 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and staged by Keys radio station US1 Radio 104.1 FM. The music is broadcast underwater via Lubell Laboratory speakers suspended beneath boats positioned above the reef.

Islands, Imagination and Instance: Florida Keys Folk Art Exhibit

Key West Art & Historical Society celebrates historic and contemporary folk artists of the Florida Keys and the islands’ influence on their work. The new exhibit opens Friday, July 6, with a special reception held from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the Bryan Gallery at the Custom House Museum, 281 Front Street. Discover how folk artists Stanley Papio, Makiki, Mario Sanchez, Jack Baron, Ronny Bailey, Frank Balbontin, Papito Suarez, and others celebrated and expressed their cultural identity through community aesthetics, and view the paintings, sculptures and wood carvings that reveal how the flora and fauna (islands), the originality (imagination), and atmosphere (instance) of the Florida Keys have shaped them artistically.

Whether seen on HBO’s Treme or at their legendary Tuesday night gig at The Maple Leaf, Grammy-winning Rebirth Brass Band is a true New Orleans institution. Formed in 1983 by the Frazier brothers, the band has evolved from playing the streets of the French Quarter to playing festivals and stages all over the world. In the wake of the sometimes- stringent competition amongst New Orleans brass bands, Rebirth is the undisputed leader of the pack, and they show no signs of slowing down. Doors open 7 p.m., show starts 8 p.m.

Now in its 33th year, the 4th of July Picnic is a Key West tradition for generations of locals and visitors alike. The Rotary Club of Key West will hold the picnic at the Casa Marina Resort, 1500 Reynolds St., at 5 p.m., along with the Key West Fireworks Celebration at 9 p.m. at the Edward B. Knight Pier (White Street Pier). Live local music, the All-American Picnic, family friendly games, along with a spectacular view of the fireworks, makes the picnic the place for you!
