Third Annual Guitar Summit, A Fusion of Master Guitarists

Three virtuoso Florida Keys guitarists are to present concerts at Key West Theater, Marathon Community Theater and Islamorada Community Church, intriguing audiences with performances in genres from classical to contemporary to Latin. During the Florida Keys Guitar Festival, the three masters — Dave Feder, Mateo Jampol and Rolando Rojas — will showcase their diverse Keys-influenced styles and play together to create a unique musical synthesis. Performances at 8 p.m., tickets $35 per concert. Also, a June 17 Meet-and-Greet brunch is scheduled at Bistro 245 in Key West.

June 21, 2018 Third Thursday Art Walk
Third Thursday ArtWalks are held every month throughout the year, offering attendees live music on three stages, performance artists and, of course, original art and hand-crafted jewelry, as well as pottery, sculptures and more! This monthly event has become a focal point of artistic expression, culinary and cultural awareness to the Upper Keys. As the Art District’s business partners remain open during these Third Thursday Art Walk evenings, this indoor/outdoor street festival has become the talk of the Keys, drawing multitudes of people from all over South Florida and beyond each month. The crowds stroll through the Art District, which spans a quarter of a mile of the Old Highway between the historical 1935 Hurricane Monument and the iconic Green Turtle Inn and includes the intersecting street now known as Morada Way, between MM 81 and 82.

Make a Splash Family Fun Weekend at History of Diving Museum
The entire family can enjoy a treasure box of fun at the History of Diving Museum, featuring a number of events for divers, history enthusiasts and land lovers. Participants will receive an event t-shirt, a museum day pass and complimentary food and beverages. The fun begins Saturday morning with an 8am treasure hunt dive aboard Keys Divers in Islamorada. Divers who find treasure are eligible for a prize. The Museum will hold an afternoon special scavenger hunt followed by a paint party. Sunday is family fun day from 10am to 5 pm when people are welcome inside the History of Dive Museum to explore exhibits while searching for hidden treasure and a prize. Celebrate World Oceans Day at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park
From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., activities for all ages are held in the Visitor Center of the park. Arts & crafts, nature programs, photo scavenger hunt, become a junior ranger, take the #skipthestrawchallenge, learn how you can help the oceans, view coral reef conservation exhibits and more. Marine artist BJ Royster is to reveal five new images of her paintings depicting popular reef destinations! All activities are free with park admission.

The Ladies Tarpon Fly is an all release, fly fishing challenge that has attracted many premier lady fly anglers and guides throughout its history. Whether your favorite species is tarpon or you are looking to put another feather in your cap, the tournament participants range from the expert to the novice who is trying to improve her fishing skills.

Fourth Annual Coralpalooza: Plant a Coral, Restore a Reef
Enjoy a weekend dedicated to promoting awareness for our coral reefs, in honor of World Oceans Day. Dive program participants will join Coral Restoration Foundation on Friday for a presentation along with hands on training, followed by a day of reef restoration activities on Saturday. Must be dive certified to participate in undersea activity, but there are activities open to snorkelers as well, and there is a family-friendly day of land-based activities happening at the newly-renovated Exploration Center.

Speaker Series at Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden
Interested in learning more about the complex and fascinating environmental world of Key West and the Florida Keys? Then join us each month for our Speaker Series. Each one-hour workshop begins at 1:30 p.m., in The Nature Chapel. Admission is $5 for non-members. Free for garden members. Be sure to come early for the Native Plant Sale from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., offering more than 150 species of butterfly- and bird-attracting native, rare and endangered plants propagated and available in the Botanical Garden Nursery. A great way to create your customized Key West garden — and support the Key West Tropical Forest and Botanical Garden, too.

Swim Around Key West
The Annual Swim Around Key West is a 12.5-mile endurance swim clockwise around the entire island of Key West. This is the 41st swimming of our event, started by founder Anna Fugina in 1977. The Annual Swim Around Key West is an independent and insured swim, permitted by the U.S. Coast Guard. There are three categories: solo swimmer, two-person relay team and three-person relay team. Presented by Key West Athletics Association. Deadline for registration applications is May 18, 2018.

Sponsored by the Southernmost VFW Post 3911, this family oriented inshore and offshore tournament offers cash prizes for dolphin, wahoo, tuna, snapper and grouper, along with prizes for heaviest fish by a lady angler, heaviest fish by a juvenile angler, pee-wee, senior angler and active service member. The heaviest Dolphin: 1st-$3000.00; 2nd-$1000.00; and 3rd $500.00. Weigh-in at Murray Marine. All proceeds benefit VFW Relief Fund for Monroe County veterans, and local charities.

Stock Island Film Festival
The Stock Island Film Festival (STIFF) will take place over 3-days in Stock Island at the Perry Hotel and Coast. Featuring Billy Corben (director of Cocaine Cowboys and The U) and hometown filmmaker Quincy Perkins, the festival will focus on short films about smuggling, drugs, falling in love, and other nefarious activities. Key West shows its Pride every day, and this is your chance to be a part of the celebration!
