Memorial Day Service
Barbara Edgar 305-393-0940 The Matecumbe Historical Trust will hold their annual Memorial Day Service at 9 a.m. at the Islamorada Hurricane Monument, Mile Marker (MM) 81.8 Overseas Highway. The monument was dedicated in 1937 to honor the Veterans and civilians killed in the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935. Barbara Edgar, President of the Matecumbe Historical Trust will make the introductory welcome presentation followed by the invocation by Pastor Tony Hammon of Island Community Church, Presentation of Colors, the National Anthem, presentation by Glenn Taylor, Guest Speaker Mayor Jim Mooney, a brief history of the Hurricane Monument, the laying of the memorial wreath. The service is open to the public. Residents and visitors are encouraged to attend in observance of Memorial Day.

In desperation, he takes up a job offer from drag queen Miss Tracy, to fill in for her drunk partner at a night’s cabaret performance. Turns out he’s a natural, and soon he’s decked out in sequins and warbling Barbara Streisand with the best of them. However, he’s kept his new job secret from his wife Jo, who’s starting to wonder about her husband’s newly unleashed feminine side.

  The History of Diving Museum presents the annual presentation series that spotlights a new topic the third Wednesday of each month, at 7 p.m. Exhibits and museum store stay open late (normal museum admission applies).

From 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., launch at Big Pine Kayak Adventures on Bogey Road on Big Pine Key, at the foot of the bridge to No Name Key. This excursion takes you along the mangrove shoreline on No Name where you can see firsthand the resilience of our little islands and how the mangroves are slowly regrowing! Join this two hour trip – an easy, relaxing paddle for all skill levels, and as you round the northern point of the island, the highlight – the sun setting in the west as the full moon rises in the east! $25 per person donation includes kayak, gear and experienced guide. 27th Annual Schooner Wharf Minimal Regatta

To compete in the wacky challenge, each six-member team must construct a craft out of the most minimal supplies: a single sheet of 4-by-8-foot plywood, two 8-foot-long 2-by-4s, a pound of fasteners and a trusty roll of duct tape.Regatta rules even forbid the use of caulking or adhesives, though epoxy paint is permitted. The “sink or swim” challenge is a Memorial Day Weekend tradition in the Florida Keys, with Sunday’s fun scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. when teams can register at the Schooner Wharf Bar, 202 William St.

The perennial winner of “Best Artist” awards, Rick Worth is among the defining Key West artists of his generation, and likely the most productive.

Collections, Key West presents: Visual Stories

Local artists and artisans of the Lower Keys are coming together for an end of the season show; Visual Stories. Lizzie Devries’ figures made of historic shutters will mix with local exotic hardwood furnishings created by Jimmy & Karen Wray’, while Craig Sasser tells nostalgic stories of the Keys. Pamela McLeod comes back to the art scene after an imposed halt by Ms Irma, she will be showing her jewelry and new sculpture designs. As a special treat, world traveler, Louis Wray will share with us his traversing talents via a photographic journey. Opening set for Friday, April 20 5-8 p.m., 6810 Front St., Stock Island.

Key West Theater presents: Howie Mandell (2 Shows!)

Howie Mandel has remained a constant force in show business for over 30 years. Mandel is executive producer of many shows through his production company ALEVY PRODUCTIONS, which has produced the series Take It All and Howie Do It for NBC, Deal With It for TBS and Mobbed for FOX, among others. He currently serves as a judge on NBC’s hit summer talent competition series, America’s Got Talent, now in its 11th season with this being Mandel’s seventh season on the series. Shows at 6:30 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.

More than 40 species of fish are targeted during these months, with divisions for men, women, junior anglers (ages 10 to 14) and Pee Wees (under 10 years old). The Key West Fishing Tournament strongly encourages the release of game fish. All participating anglers receive certificates noting their catches and qualify for a variety of prizes.
