Eligible tarpon must measure at least 48 inches in length to earn release points, and weigh at least 70 pounds for weight points. Immerse Yourself! History of Diving Museum’s Free Lecture Series

Click through time on this 2,000-year journey. Starts 7 p.m.
May. 16, 2018 The Investigation and identification of a 16th Century Shipwreck
Presented by Keys History & Discovery Center. Join Archaeologist Corey Malcom from the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum as he shares the story of a well-preserved shipwreck found on the western edge of the Little Bahama Bank. It was clearly Spanish and dated to the 1500s, but there were no obvious signs of its mission or identity. Malcom, who organized the research, will detail the fascinating step-by-step process, from discovery to identification, of this early and important shipwreck. Cost is $25 for non-members. Light appetizers and a cash bar will be available. Reservations recommended. Doors open at 5 p.m., presentation begins at 6 p.m.

May. 19, 2018 Florida Keys Eco-Discover Center’s Discovery Saturday: Sea Turtles Register at 305-809-4750 Website Discovery Saturday from 10-11 a.m. features learning about sea turtles with special guests from Marathon’s Turtle Hospital. Through engaging crafts and activities, children will learn how to reduce the threats to these fascinating sea creatures. . Space is limited. The Florida Keys Eco-Discover Center, operated by Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, hosts Discovery Saturday for children in kindergarten through fifth grade on the third Saturday of each month. Located in NOAA’s Dr. Nancy Foster Florida Keys Environmental Complex on the Truman Annex waterfront in Key West, the Eco-Discovery Center features more than 6,000 square feet of interactive exhibits, which interpret the resources and management efforts of Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, two national parks, and four national wildlife refuges.
May. 3, 2018 – May. 19, 2018 Marathon Community Theater presents: Making God Laugh 305-743-0994 Website Making God Laugh is a family comedy that takes place in four scenes, each ten years apart and set at various holidays. Beginning in 1980, the newly “launched” kids – a priest, an aspiring actress, and a former star football player – all return home where we learn of their plans as they embark on their adult lives. Harry S. Truman Legacy Symposium
Key West’s political history is highlighted in panel discussions, a reception and tours of the Little White House where Truman spent many working vacations during his presidency. The 2018 theme is Harry S. Truman’s Legacy on how the nation’s 33rd president dealt with Russia and the Cold War. Located at 111 Front St.

Key West Theater presents: Howie Mandell (2 Shows!)
Howie Mandel has remained a constant force in show business for over 30 years. Mandel is executive producer of many shows through his production company ALEVY PRODUCTIONS, which has produced the series Take It All and Howie Do It for NBC, Deal With It for TBS and Mobbed for FOX, among others. He currently serves as a judge on NBC’s hit summer talent competition series, America’s Got Talent, now in its 11th season with this being Mandel’s seventh season on the series. Shows at 6:30 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.

Website Through 24 years, 16 albums and 2300 live shows, Carbon Leaf’s independent spirit and vibrant music continues to resonate with their fans. Blending folk, Celtic, bluegrass, Americana and rock traditions into what the group calls Ether-Electrified Porch Music, the Virginia quintet’s songs of life, love, heartbreak and land-scape are independently written, recorded and produced from their own studio in Richmond. Doors open 7 p.m., show starts 8 p.m.
May. 19, 2018 Native Plant Sale & Speaker Series at the Key West Tropical Forest 305-296-1504 Website The Nursery in the Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden will be offering native trees, shrubs and vines for sale from 9 a.m. to noon. Choose from over 1,500 plants and 150 species of butterfly and bird-attracting plants propagated by volunteers in sizes from one-gallon to 30-gallon pots. All proceeds directly benefit the Tropical Forest’s conservation program. At 1:30 pm, Harry Crissy, Community Resource Development agent with the University of Florida/IFAS Extension in Key West, will be the featured speaker in the Toppino Nature Chapel Pavillion. The topic will be Soil Remediation in the Keys. The Garden is located at 5210 College Road on Stock Island.

Jan. 1, 2018 – Aug. 31, 2018 Key West Fishing Tournament Doris Harris 305-923-5934 Website More than 40 species of fish are targeted during these months, with divisions for men, women, junior anglers (ages 10 to 14) and Pee Wees (under 10 years old). The Key West Fishing Tournament strongly encourages the release of game fish. All participating anglers receive certificates noting their catches and qualify for a variety of prizes.
