The self-guided tour offers a chance to visit a wide variety of island garden styles in Key Largo and Plantation Key, not otherwise available for viewing. Stroll through our Francis Tracy Garden Center grounds (MM94 Bayside) while enjoying the complimentary Tea Party, spectacular vendors of all types, plant sales, artisan wares and educational exhibits. While shopping have lunch cooked to order by a local restaurant on site. Joe Cella Memorial Award, The Birds in Nature Art Show

Joe Cella was a well-known and well-liked artist who specialized in woodcarvings of birds in nature. Awards in the art show include oil painting, acrylic and photography. Original art is to be displayed by members of the Art Guild of the Purple Isles. Open to the public at Trade Winds Plaza, Public Library Community Room, MM 101.4 oceanside.

Maritime Archaeology of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary

Matthew Lawrence, Maritime Archaeologist presentation will be on the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary which encompasses one of the greatest navigation hazards in the western hemisphere. Maritime traffic for the past 500 years has skirted perilously close to more than 100 miles of barely submerged coral reefs. The Florida reef tract combined with imprecise navigation, tumultuous weather, and human error have led to thousands of shipwrecks. Matthew Lawrence will relate what archaeological study of this underwater cultural heritage is revealing about the Atlantic maritime world. The Matecumbe Historical Trust will host this month’s free lecture starting at 6:30 pm at Island Community Church.

A free concert at the ICE Amphitheater at Islamorada’s Founders Park, Bayside, MM 87, Plantation Key. Performances are outdoors; no chairs provided, bring blankets. Starts at 4 p.m. Admission free for all concerts. Presented by Keys Community Concert Band. Bring your dog to be featured in our Pet Parade and, along with the concert band marches, listen to Family Anthem, a bluegrass band from Branson, MO. Pet adoptions will be available through Upper Keys/Key Largo Animal Shelter.

Nationally recognized bands are to perform as well as Keys favorites for an all-day music fest. ALL proceeds benefit charities, including Project: Vet Relief, Relay for Life and Wesley House Family Services. The two-day, jam packed musical charity event is to be held at the Marathon Community Park Amphitheater, from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Presented by American Legion Riders.

More than 40 species of fish are targeted during these months, with divisions for men, women, junior anglers (ages 10 to 14) and Pee Wees (under 10 years old). The Key West Fishing Tournament strongly encourages the release of game fish. All participating anglers receive certificates noting their catches and qualify for a variety of prizes.

This sharply funny and evocative exploration of time was the flat our hit of the 2016 Contemporary American Theatre Festival in the 25th season. The play centers on four women who bonded as protesters one night in jail in their youth. Through the vagaries of love, careers, children, and lost causes, the women reunite once a year for a photo shoot, chronicling their changing selves. But when these private photos have the potential to become part of a public exhibit, mutiny erupts and relationships are tested. Writer/musician/playwright Ben Harrison penned the definitive account of this true macabre love story in his nonfiction book, Undying Love, which earned him a spot in front of national audiences on the Howard Stern Show and This American Life. Originally performed at the Appelrouth Grill in 1999, Undying Love: The Musical distills the atmosphere of Key West in the 1930′s, and perfectly melds the pathos of von Cosel’s tale with Harrison’s signature dry humor.
