Best Restaurants in the Florida Keys

Travel+Leisure has done their research. And the best restaurants in the Florida keys………?

Antonia’s

Antonia’s has been serving up homemade Italian cuisine for more than 30 years in a cozy old Victorian building. Each morning, handmade pasta can be seen hanging out the window until it’s time to assemble one of the restaurant’s impressive dishes, such as a hearty lasagna or linguine with Key West pink shrimp. Other entrees include pan-roasted local grouper, served alongside Maine lobster and haricots verts, and chianti-braised lamb osso buco. The wine cellar is stocked with more than 100 wines by the bottle to complement the cuisine.

Azur Restaurant
Azur offers a taste of creative Mediterranean in the heart of the Florida Keys. Greek and Italian staples get a Key West makeover at this locally beloved eatery, with octopus salad and a lineup of homemade gnocchis—including a toasted version served with pine nuts and truffle—among some of the crave-worthy dishes. It all washes down easily with the restaurant’s impressive and expansive wine list. Even more innovative is the breakfast menu, which features a Key lime pie-stuffed French toast.

Banana Cafe

Come for the atmosphere, stay for the crêpes. Between breakfast and dinner, there are more than a dozen varieties of crêpes in flavors both sweet (Key lime, strawberry shortcake) and savory (Norwegian smoked salmon, black angus burger). The most popular, filled with a creamy mushroom sauce, is called La Super. Just be aware that this open-air, French-inspired nook is hardly a secret. If you wanted to be seated quickly, it’s best to arrive before 9:30 a.m. (they open at 8 a.m.)

Blue Heaven Restaurant

Blue Heaven began its life in 1992 as a casual lunch spot. Today, it serves up breakfast, lunch, and dinner—and is regularly packed; long lines are one of its most distinguishing features (as are its family of cats and roosters). The charming space is housed in a century-old building that previously operated as a pool hall, an ice cream shop, and a bar where Ernest Hemingway was known to referee boxing matches. It’s still got a vintage vibe, with a collection of eclectic artwork and mismatched furniture that gives the place a homey and distinctively “island” feel. About those cats and roosters: You’ll find them in the open-air courtyard, where you can grab a table at any time of day. Breakfast is the standout here, with made-from-scratch pancakes (try the banana ones) and choose-your-own-protein eggs Benedicts (the lobster is a solid choice).

Café Marquesa
This intimate, 50-seat restaurant is located in the Marquesa Hotel, a collection of 19th-century conch houses in historic Old Town. Tall windows overlook Fleming Street, while a display kitchen provides views of chef Susan Ferry and her team at work, creating contemporary American dishes from the small, regularly-changing menu. Options may include almond and coconut-crusted black grouper and pan-roasted duck breast with cherry barbecue sauce. The restaurant also has a small bar area serving small plates, more than a dozen wines by the glass, and Key West-inspired cocktails
