This exhibits highlights all who served on this great ship, missions it participated in, the efforts in preparing her for sinking and the environmental impact the artificial reef has had on the area. The exhibit is to be on display through Labor Day.

Information Booth for Spiny Lobster Sport Season
Located at Key Largo’s Waldorf Plaza, mile marker 100 oceanside near the top of the Florida Keys Overseas Highway. Planned hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Wednesday, July 26, in front of Divers Direct. The plaza is located on the right shoulder of the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 1. Officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are to demonstrate how to properly measure harvested lobsters and provide the latest lobster-catching rules and regulations, which includes a limit of six lobsters — each with a carapace measuring larger than three inches — per person, per day. Daily limits in the Keys and Biscayne National Park differ from those in other parts of Florida.

In July, participate in REEF’s Great Annual Fish Count by learning how to ID fish seen on Florida Keys reefs and submitting a REEF fish ID survey. Join Allison & Carlos Estape at REEF Headquarters (MM 98.3) at 7 p.m. to learn how to ID fish seen on Florida Keys Reefs. On your next dive/snorkel trip, fill in a REEF Volunteer Fish Survey and become a citizen scientist by submitting your sightings to REEF’s Global Fish Survey Database.

Lionfish Derby for Divers
Teams of up to four divers compete for cash and prizes. Derby divers who successfully remove invasive lionfish from sanctuary waters can win for most, largest and smallest lionfish. The Upper Keys derby is held at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. Visit REEF website to register; teams of up to four people can join. Divers can participate in a derby from their own private vessel or join a professional dive operator’s charter.

Florida Keys artists and sculptors are featured in this open-air exhibit at the Key West Tropical Forest and Botanical Garden. Exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Explore a unique blend of sculptured art with Mother Nature that enhances both. The Key West Art Garden showcases local artist’s art work made mostly out of recycled materials displayed as part of nature within the beautiful grounds of the Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden. Art displayed throughout the garden allows visitors to reignite their sense of exploration finding each treasure and appreciating the workmanship in the nature and art. An opening reception to meet the artists and unveiling is to be held on Wed., April 26 from 4-6 p.m. with art walk to follow.
Apr. 7, 2017 – Nov. 30, 2017 – Key West Fishing Tournament 305-923-5934 More than 40 species of fish are targeted during these months, with divisions for men, women, junior anglers (ages 10 to 14) and Pee Wees (under 10 years old). The Key West Fishing Tournament strongly encourages the release of game fish. All participating anglers receive certificates noting their catches and qualify for a variety of prizes.

Key Lime Pie-Making Class: Make Your Own Mini-Pie!
Go behind the scenes at Key West’s sweetest spot for key lime pie and learn to make Key Lime Pie Co.’s award-winning recipe of all-natural ingredients. In this class held Thursdays at 11 a.m. and Fridays at 10 a.m. & 11:30 a.m., each participant will make his/her own mini key lime pie of graham cracker crust, key lime filling, and whipped topping—tasting encouraged! Experience pie making in our live kitchen—under the tutelage of one of our seasoned pie makers—where thousands of delicious key lime pies are made every week! After creating your mini pie masterpiece, you can pack it up for later or relax and savor right away. Class is approximately 1 hour in duration; $20 per person. Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a paid adult.
