Enjoy a special exhibit celebrating and honoring the Spiegel Grove, intentionally sunk 15 years ago off Key Largo. This exhibits highlights all who served on this great ship, missions it participated in, the efforts in preparing her for sinking and the environmental impact the artificial reef has had on the area. The exhibit is to be on display through Labor Day.

Up to $30,000 in cash and prizes are up for grabs, based on a 30-boat field. Prizes for first- through third-place finishers. This is a boat tournament in which the combined weight of three fish determines the winners! Up to four anglers per boat.

Fireworks Show on Blackwater Sound
Blackwater Sound provides the perfect nighttime mirrorlike surface to make the annual fireworks display seem like a 3-D viewing experience designed to dazzle. The show is to take place on the bayfront in Key Largo at 10 p.m., July 4. The best seating can be found at Jimmy Johnson’s Big Chill, Sundowners and Senior Frijoles restaurants, Caribbean Club and Marriott Key Largo Bay Resort, all located around mile marker (MM) 104 bayside. Reservations are suggested because seating is limited; contact restaurants directly.

Independence Day Celebration

In Islamorada, the village’s Independence Day Celebration is to be held from 6 to 10 p.m., at Founders Park at mile market 87 with family fun, food and fireworks. Food and drinks are to be available for purchase. Vendors are to include Chef Drew’s Island Catering, Craig’s Restaurant, M.E.A.T. Eatery & Taproom, IL Pizzarello and Polar Ice. Beer, rum punch, soda and water can be purchased, with all proceeds to benefit the Upper Keys Rotary Foundation. A baked apple pie contest is set for 6 p.m. Live entertainment is to be provided by The Carousers and Leah Sutter. On-site parking is $5 per vehicle.

Annual July 4 Parade and Picnic

Key Largo Chamber of Commerce and the Upper Keys Reporter are to host an annual July 4 parade and picnic from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The old-fashioned community event is to be held at Key Largo Community Park and includes vendors, hotdogs and beverages.

Marathon Beach Party & Fireworks Show

For one of the Keys’ largest and longest fireworks displays, families gather for a full day of activities in Marathon for a patriotic parade that begins around 10:30 a.m. and proceeds from Marathon High School on Sombrero Beach Road (MM 50 oceanside) to free-admission Sombrero Beach, where a daylong celebration features food, drink, kids’ crafts and entertainment, capped off after dark with fireworks. Marathon is known as the Boating Destination of the Keys, and hundreds of boaters line up in front of the beach for a preferred view of the festivities.

 Florida Keys artists and sculptors are featured in this open-air exhibit at the Key West Tropical Forest and Botanical Garden. Exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Explore a unique blend of sculptured art with Mother Nature that enhances both. The Key West Art Garden showcases local artist’s art work made mostly out of recycled materials displayed as part of nature within the beautiful grounds of the Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden. Art displayed throughout the garden allows visitors to reignite their sense of exploration finding each treasure and appreciating the workmanship in the nature and art. An opening reception to meet the artists and unveiling is to be held on Wed., April 26 from 4-6 p.m. with art walk to follow.

More than 40 species of fish are targeted during these months, with divisions for men, women, junior anglers (ages 10 to 14) and Pee Wees (under 10 years old). The Key West Fishing Tournament strongly encourages the release of game fish. All participating anglers receive certificates noting their catches and qualify for a variety of prizes.

On Big Pine Key, the Big Pine & Lower Keys Rotary Club is to host pre-Independence Day activities beginning at 5 p.m., at Big Pine Community Park, mile marker 30. Attractions include vendors, food, beverages, games, family activities and entertainment by the Prime Movers and Island Harmony Singers. Fireworks are scheduled at 9 p.m. Admission is free, but no coolers, pets or personal fireworks are allowed.

Doors open at 5 p.m. at the Casa Marina, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, for food, live music and beach dancing, family games, a silent auction and more. Fireworks are to begin at 9 p.m. A traditional All-American picnic buffet offers hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, watermelon and drink for $25 per adult, $15 per child ages 4-12 and free for children 3 and younger, admission included. Rotary Club of Key West Annual Fireworks Show

Since 1976, the Rotary Club of Key West has presented the island’s annual fireworks show. Staged from the Edward B. Knight Pier (formerly called White Street Pier) overlooking the Atlantic Ocean where White Street meets Atlantic Avenue, fireworks are to begin at 9 p.m. Attendees can purchase food, drinks, burgers and hot dogs to benefit the Rotary Club’s scholarship funds at a booth across from the pier on Atlantic Avenue.

Join the Bar Stroll in Red White and Blue, honoring local active military and Key West’s penchant for fun. Starts at noon; come early, meet and greet, enjoy the scenic Key West Harbor, and enjoy the entertainment. A $25 entry fee includes a commemorative t-shirt and a ticket to present at nine local establishments along the Harbor Walk for a free beverage or food item. Bar Stroll will begin at Lagerheads Beach Bar and Grill, 1 Simonton St, on the beach. Tickets sold there, or pre-register via email.
