Fishing and summer relaxation is most of what’s going on this week on the Keys, but here is a smattering of what else you can do while visiting!

In the Upper Keys, Key Largo and Islamorada:

In Islamorada from January 20th to December 21st, The History of Diving Museum presents: Immerse Yourself! 2016 Lecture Series Celebrate the museum’s 10th anniversary by attending a free lecture series held at the museum, located at MM 82.9, every third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. Adventurers from treasure hunters to aquanauts help tell the story of mankind’s attempts to explore, understand and venture under the sea. The evening lectures are informal, informative and provide a valuable educational resource at the museum, an acclaimed facility dedicated to the collection, preservation and display of relics and artifacts related to diving and its heritage. The Gold Cup Tarpon Tournament runs from June 20th to 24th. With founders including baseball great and avid fly fisherman Ted Williams, this challenge appeals to “tarpon addicts,” and both experienced and novice anglers can compete. The event is limited to 25 anglers and proceeds are to benefit the Florida Keys’ fishing industry’s Guides Trust Foundation. Questions, Email: infodept@goldcuptt.com

The 6th Annual Univ. of Miami Sports Hall of Fame Celebrity Dolphin Tournament is in Islamorada from June 24th to the 25th. Anglers can fish with some favorite former Miami Hurricanes All-Stars in the one-day tournament that features cash prizes for the heaviest dolphin. Middle Keys, Marathon

In Marathon, The  Super Boat Grand Prix Offshore powerboat racing events, which are held June 24th to 25th, take place along a course parallel to the Marathon shoreline near the world-famous Seven Mile Bridge. Enjoy free admission to view the boats and meet drivers and crews at the Race Village dry pits and wet pits. Questions, Contact: John Carbonell 305-296-6166

Lower Keys, Big Pine and Key West

Florida Keys artists and sculptors are featured in this open-air exhibit at the Key West Tropical Forest and Botanical Garden. The Key West Art Garden 2016 from April 15th to July 31st,  Exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m..Enjoy a self-guided tour of the Art Garden, light refreshments. Entrance is free. The Key West Fishing Tournament runs from April 9th to November 30th. More than 40 species of fish are targeted during these months, with divisions for men, women, junior anglers (ages 10 to 14) and Pee Wees (under 10 years old). The Key West Fishing Tournament strongly encourages the release of game fish. All participating anglers receive certificates noting their catches and qualify for a variety of prizes. In Key West from June 17th to 29th, Michael Charles will be in Concert at Chicago’s Key West Blues Hall of Famer Australian artist Michael Charles embarks on his ninth consecutive tour in 2016, the Coming Back Home Tour, which will once again take him to the far corners of the USA, Canada, and Australia. Charles has graced countless stages all over the world. Shows are set for 8:30 p.m. at Chicagos, 610 Greene St. Questions, Contact: 305-741-7891
 

Looking for a fun place to take the kids? Then visit the Family-Friendly Sheriff’s Animal Farm on June 26th from 1-3 p.m.. Bring the family and come visit the many animals at the farm. It is free of charge, but donations are welcomed because that is how the farm is sustained. The farm is located just off of College Road, on Stock Island, at the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters complex. Open the second and fourth Sundays of the month.
