Sanctuary Classic Fishing and Photo Contest
A free fishing and photo contest that celebrates recreational fishing in America’s national marine sanctuaries and promotes conservation-focused fishing practices. Participating anglers around the country can submit qualifying fishing photos to the Sanctuary Classic website. One winner is selected weekly who best exemplifies themes such as biggest and smallest looking fish, best conservation message, most unique looking fish, most family-oriented photo, best display of responsible fishing values and more. Prizes are awarded each winner.

Key West Fishing Tournament
More than 40 species of fish are targeted during these months, with divisions for men, women, junior anglers (ages 10 to 14) and Pee Wees (under 10 years old). The Key West Fishing Tournament strongly encourages the release of game fish. All participating anglers receive certificates noting their catches and qualify for a variety of prizes.

“A Sense of Place – Richard Kemble 1932-2007” Exhibition at Historic Gato Building
Creative audiences can enjoy an opening reception on Tuesday, May 12 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., at the Historic Gato Building, 1100 Simonton Street. Parking is free. Exhibition is to be displayed weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Oct. 30, featuring Kemble’s Intaglio, Woodcuts, Sculptures, Ink on Paper, Collages and Oil Pastels.

Second Annual Mystery Writers’ Key West Fest
This year’s event— open to authors, aspiring authors and non-writing mystery-buffs alike— features international bestselling and global multi-award winning author Jeffery Deaver and includes multiple workshops, presentations and panel events with other renowned crime fiction and true crime authors and one-on-one consultations with publishing industry experts. Also featured is the presentation of the inaugural Jeremiah Healy Mystery Writing Award.

Discovery Saturday Educational Series: Sharks on the Reef
Kids in kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to join the free, fun-filled Discovery Saturday at the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center (35 East Quay Road, Key West) from 10-11 a.m. Learn some cool facts about sharks, see how sharks find food, and play a game of Shark on the Prowl! Free admission, free parking. Discovery Saturday is held the third Saturday of every month. Pre-registration is recommended. The Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center is located at 35 East Quay Road on the Truman Annex waterfront in Key West.
