The event provides a cultural pass for South Florida residents and visitors to experience the rich history of Key West by offering free or reduced admission to more than 20 participating museums, including Crane Point Museum & Nature Center, Pigeon Key, Harry S. Truman Little White House, Key West Aquarium, Key West Art and Historical Society at Custom House and many more. History of Diving Museum presents: Journey to the Bottom of the Sea

 

The History of Diving Museum at MM 83 continues the free, “Immerse Yourself!” series, to begin at 7 p.m., with a very special event: “Journey to the Bottom of the Sea,” presented by the museum’s founder and Women’s Diving Hall of Fame inductee, Dr. Sally Bauer. The Museum is open daily from 10am-5pm. Extended hours on the night of the program until 7pm. Enjoy the Museum’s exhibits before the event.

FL Keys 100 Fish ID Challenge: Identifying 100+ Fish Species on 1 Dive

Join Keys-based underwater photographers Carlos and Allison Estape in the quest to become a Century Club Diver, and identify 100+ species on 1 dive! Lecture will discuss fish biodiversity in the Florida Keys, how to do a Century Dive, the top fish biodiversity dive sites in the Upper Keys for a Century Dive, and a thorough dive briefing on how to do a Century Dive on Alligator Ledge. Free and open to the public,from 7-8:30 p.m. at REEF headquarters, in the median at MM 98.3.

6th Annual Spartan Fishing Tournament

Headquartered at La Siesta Resort & Marina, the one-day tournament is a family-friendly fishing event with backcountry and offshore divisions. Enjoy a BBQ, awards, raffle and silent auction to follow a day on the water. A Friday captains meeting is set for 8 p.m., fishing starts at 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday. Registration is available online.

Dive Into History: Deep Diving into the Abyss

Part of the History of Diving Museum’s new ‘Dive into History’ quarterly event series; this installment of the series is an excursion into oceanic exploration from William Beebe’s record-setting Bathysphere dive descent to 3,028 feet and James Cameron’s submersible Deepsea Challenger, made famous with his solo dive to the deepest spot in the world’s oceans. Highlights include movie screenings, guest speakers, a ‘sea creatures for kids’ workshop and more.

Key West Art & Historical Society presents: Key West or Bust, A History of Tourism

 The Florida Keys have historically been an alluring travel destination for travelers around the world. With the onset of the Great Depression in the 1930s, tourism in Key West was the lynchpin in warding off bankruptcy. This exhibit explores the history of tourism in the Florida Keys from the 1920s until the 1980s while focusing specifically on transportation, accommodation, travel brochures and postcards. Custom House Museum is located at 281 Front Street, and open daily 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

In this exhibition, he displays a number of his impressionistic-style paintings, as well as a selection of his distinctive sculptures in stone, wood, clay and more. Custom House Museum is located at 281 Front Street, and open daily 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Key West Fishing Tournament

More than 40 species of fish are targeted during these months, with divisions for men, women, junior anglers (ages 10 to 14) and Pee Wees (under 10 years old). The Key West Fishing Tournament strongly encourages the release of game fish. All participating anglers receive certificates noting their catches and qualify for a variety of prizes.

Visit the Family-Friendly Sheriff’s Animal Farm

 

Bring the family and come visit the animals at the farm, including horses, a steer, pigs, goats, sheep, bunnies, alligators, tropical birds, kinkajous, Sloths, a Lemur, Kramer the Emu, a family of Patagonian Cavys, tortoises and turtles, snakes and many more. It is free of charge and donations are appreciated. The farm is located just off of College Road, on Stock Island, at the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters complex.

Fifh Annual Key West Brewfest

 

More than 150 beers and micro-brews are on to be tap at this “tasty” annual event that benefits the charitable efforts of the Key West Sunrise Rotary Club of the Conch Republic. Events from beer dinners, beer brunches, happy hour parties, pool parties, late-night parties, seminars and the Signature Tasting Festival Event are some of the great activities on tap, including a Local Home Brew Head to Head Competition.
