Fourth Annual University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame Celebrity Dolphin Tournament

This annual event invites you to fish with some of your favorite former ‘Cane All-Stars! NFL Hall of Famer and University of Miami football great Michael Irvin is set to host this year’s fourth annual tournament. The tournament weekend will begin Friday evening with a kick-off party and captains’ meeting followed on Saturday by a full day of fishing, awards dinner and live and silent auctions featuring unique sports memorabilia as well as a variety of gift packages. This is the only fishing event of its kind that matches participants with former Miami Hurricanes sports stars for the competition. Cash prizes and trophies will be presented to anglers in eight categories. A portion of the tournament proceeds will go to Habitat for Humanity of the Upper Keys, The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis and the UMSHoF. Event activities will take place at Founders Park, Mile Marker (MM) 87 and Coconut Cove Resort and Marina at MM 85.

Fireworks Show on Blackwater Sound

 

Blackwater Sound provides the perfect nighttime mirrorlike surface to make the annual fireworks display seem like a 3-D viewing experience designed to dazzle. The show is to take place on the bayfront in Key Largo at 10 p.m., July 4. The best seating can be found at Jimmy Johnson’s Big Chill, Sundowners and Senior Frijoles restaurants, Caribbean Club and Marriott Key Largo Bay Resort, all located around mile marker (MM) 104 bayside. Reservations are suggested because seating is limited; contact restaurants directly.

 

Islamorada / July 4

Independence Day Celebration

The popular Spirit of Islamorada July 4 celebration is to be held at Founders Park, MM 87 on Plantation Key. Hosted by the Village of Islamorada and the Upper Keys Rotary Club, the event features entertainment, food and drinks for kids, teens, adults — and even dogs. The party is to run 6-9:30 p.m., followed by a fireworks show. An admission fee of $10 is to be charged to nonresidents.

Independence Day at Holiday Isle

Independence Day at Islamorada’s Postcard Inn Beach Resort & Marina at Holiday Isle, MM 84 oceanside, is expected to include live music at the world-famous Tiki Bar along with food, fun and frolicking. Revelers can party Tiki-style into the night.

 

Key Largo / July 4

39th Annual Fourth of July Parade

The 39th annual Fourth of July parade co-sponsored by the Key Largo Chamber of Commerce is themed “Salute to Patriots of Liberty.” The parade gets rolling at 10 a.m. from the parking lot at Anthony’s Clothing Store, MM 98.2 on the center median of U.S. Highway 1 in Key Largo, and ends at MM 100. Awards are to be presented for most original entry, most beautiful and best portrayal of the theme. A free-admission community picnic, barbecue, vendor booths, kids’ games, live music and a nighttime fireworks show are planned to follow the parade and be staged at Rowell’s Marina, MM 104.5 bayside. Parking is free.

Americana Music Festival

 

In its first year, nearly 30 musical bands and solo performers are to take the stage at Marathon’s eclectic waterfront eatery, Dockside Tropical Café, located at 35 Sombrero Blvd., for an inaugural Americana Music Festival. The event is free and open to the public. Daily afternoon hourlong live performances are planned to “rock the dock,” with headliners each evening.

Marathon Beach Party & Fireworks Show

 

For one of the Keys’ largest and longest fireworks displays, families gather for a full day of activities in Marathon for a patriotic parade that begins around 10:30 a.m. and proceeds from Marathon High School on Sombrero Beach Road (MM 50 oceanside) to free-admission Sombrero Beach, where a daylong celebration features food, drink, kids’ crafts and entertainment, capped off after dark with fireworks. Marathon is known as the Boating Destination of the Keys, and hundreds of boaters line up in front of the beach for a preferred view of the festivities.

The Florida Keys have historically been an alluring travel destination for travelers around the world. With the onset of the Great Depression in the 1930s, tourism in Key West was the lynchpin in warding off bankruptcy. This exhibit explores the history of tourism in the Florida Keys from the 1920s until the 1980s while focusing specifically on transportation, accommodation, travel brochures and postcards. Custom House Museum is located at 281 Front Street, and open daily 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Key West Fishing Tournament

More than 40 species of fish are targeted during these months, with divisions for men, women, junior anglers (ages 10 to 14) and Pee Wees (under 10 years old). The Key West Fishing Tournament strongly encourages the release of game fish. All participating anglers receive certificates noting their catches and qualify for a variety of prizes.

6th Annual Key West Art Garden

The cost of admission to the Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden brings visitors an added value and wealth of beauty with 19 sculptures, each made of recycled materials, and some interactive, placed throughout the garden from local contemporary artists. Garden is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Big Pine & the Lower Keys / July 4

Celebrate Fourth of July Fireworks

The Big Pine & Lower Keys Rotary Club’s annual 4th of July fireworks are to take place at Big Pine Community Park, MM 30 bayside at the end of Sands Road. Live music, food and ice-cold beverages are to be accompanied by games and activities for both adults and kids. An expanded fireworks show is set to go off at nightfall, or about 9 p.m. Admission is free, but no coolers, pets or personal fireworks will be allowed. Gates open at 5 p.m.

30th Annual Hospice of the Florida Keys & Visiting Nurse Association Picnic

 

Benefits Hospice of the Florida Keys and the Visiting Nurse Association takes place at the luxurious Casa Marina Resort & Beach Club, A Waldorf Astoria Collection, located at 1500 Reynolds St. overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The celebration is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. with fireworks starting at 9 p.m., courtesy of the Key West Rotary Club. The traditional buffet offers hamburgers, hot dogs and all the fixings for $25 per adult, $10 per child between 3 and 12 and free for children younger than three. General admission (no meal) tickets are $10 and include watermelon, popcorn and soft drink. For first-class service and a lavish buffet and “best seats on the beach,” tickets $125 per person. Live music, a silent auction and lots of children’s games round out the fun-filled family festivities.

6th Annual 4th of July Pub Crawl – A Bar Stroll in Red White and Blue

Join a celebratory Independence Day event honoring our local active military and Key West’s penchant for fun! Bar Stroll will begin at Sunset Pier, Ocean Key Resort, 0 Duval St., on the Historic Harbour Walk in Key West. Advance ticket sales are at Dante’s, and Schooner Wharf Bar. Day of event sales at Sunset Pier only. Tickets are to be available beginning Thursday, June 28th.
