Dolphin Research Center and DiveBar Hosting a Bridge Cleanup & Barbecue

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Tom’s Harbor Bridge (MM 60.6, by Tom’s Harbor Channel), the public is invited to join a volunteer event to collect discarded trash, monofilament fishing line and other debris at the bridge. The cleanup is to begin at the parking area on the west end of the bridge on the ocean side at MM 60.6 from 3 – 5 p.m. All participants should wear clothes, hats and shoes that can get wet or dirty and bring a bug repellent, sunscreen and a cutting tool. Discarded monofilament line and all kinds of marine debris pose a huge threat to marine life. Florida manatees, dolphins, turtles, birds and other animals frequently become entangled in or ingest marine debris and can suffer life-threatening injuries.
