Those succulent claws, brought to shore fresh daily from the waters surrounding the Florida Keys, will drip with drawn butter and mustard sauce on the chins of hungry locals and visitors. A series of food festivals during the season celebrate the sustainable seafood resource throughout the Keys.

Islamorada Junior Sailfish Tournament

Recreation for teens in the Florida Keys can mean learning from experienced local captains and mates to tie a bimini or rig ballyhoo. One weekend each year anglers aged 16 and younger can apply such lessons in this competition. A maximum of six anglers is allowed per boat. Proceeds help benefit Toys for Tots of Monroe County.

History of Diving Museum presents: Women Divers, Behind the Scenes

The History of Diving Museum at MM 83 continues the free, “Immerse Yourself!” series, to begin at 7 p.m., with a special event: “Women Divers: Behind the Scenes and Below the Surface,” presented by Alyssa Engiles. The Museum is open daily from 10am-5pm. Extended hours on the night of the program until 7pm. Enjoy the Museum’s exhibits before the event.

Morada Way Arts & Cultural District presents: Third Thursday Art Walk

Showcasing the fine arts, music and culinary nuances of the Purple Isles, the Morada Way Arts & Cultural District features national and local artisans who are showcased in galleries at Morada Way between mile marker 81 and 82 – formerly named Industrial Road – as well as “culinary art” and live music from 6-9 p.m. In addition to individual artists, participating galleries include the Redbone Gallery, Gallery Morada, Pasta Pantaleo Signature Gallery and Bluewater Potters. Free admission. Art Walk is held the third Thursday of each month.

Free Pops-in-the-Park; Holiday Happiness Concert

An extra special holiday concert, to be held at the amphitheater at Founders Park, mile marker 87 bayside. The concert features traditional music of the holidays. Starts at 4 p.m. All seats are outdoors, chairs and blankets recommended to bring. Presented by Keys Community Concert Band

Holiday Photos with a Dolphin at Dolphin Research Center

Visitors who participate in DRC’s ‘Meet the Dolphin’ program can bring their own Santa hats, reindeer antlers or other accessories to use while posing. DRC’s experienced photographers will shoot the pictures using high-resolution digital cameras. ‘Meet the Dolphin’ guests go onto a floating dock to give backrubs and share a “flippershake” with a dolphin and have their photo taken. The program is offered several times each day on a walk-in basis and costs $25 per person in addition to general admission prices. The photos are supplied on a flash drive for $20 for one person, and $35 for multiple people in the same shot. Quality prints are also available and print prices vary depending on number ordered. Group size is limited to four people.

Key West “Bight’ Before Christmas” Holiday Celebration

Live holiday music, games for the kids, holiday cheer and a chance for photos with Santa highlight this event along the historic harbor walk linking colorful seaport restaurants, bars and businesses at the Key West Bight. Key West Art & Historical Society presents: Tennessee Williams, The Playwright & the Painter

Chiefly known as a playwright, Tennessee Williams also had an artistic flair for painting. To mark the 30-year anniversary of his death, the Custom House is exhibit a number of Williams’ paintings revealing a different facet of his life and his talents. Custom House Museum is located at 281 Front Street, and open daily 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed Christmas.

Taking inspiration from the famous Cole Porter musical, the Custom House will display a wide array of knickknacks, curios, ornaments, trinkets, baubles, tchotchkes and artwork owned by members of the local community. Their unique and quirky collections will be showcased alongside a narrative from the owners. Christmas on the Sheriff’s Animal Farm

From 1-3 p.m., kids and adults can visit the furry, fluffy and feathered residents of the Animal Farm and get a photo taken with Santa. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Animal Farm is situated at the county’s detention center just outside Key West at 5501 College Road. This event is free and open to the public.

Southernmost Christmas Tree Celebration

Holiday revelers enjoy free conch chowder and then board Conch Tour Trains to proceed to the continental United States’ Southernmost Point to set up the southernmost Christmas tree at sunset overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The event is an annual community thank-you party presented by the Monroe Association for ReMARCable Citizens. The fun starts at 3 p.m., at 1401 Seminary St.

Discovery Saturday Educational Series: Rascally Wreckers

Presented by the Florida Keys Eco Discovery Center, this family-friendly and educational series invites kids in kindergarten through fifth grade from 10-11 a.m. to play games and make crafts while learning about a new topic of interest and the marine ecosystems of the Keys. Discovery Saturday is held the third Saturday of every month. Pre-registration is recommended. The Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center is located at 35 East Quay Road on the Truman Annex waterfront in Key West. Admission is free and free parking is available.

Holiday Shopping at Monthly Artisan Market

Held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Restaurant Store parking lot, this monthly event is to give residents and visitors alike a chance to shop fresh and local as the parking lot at 1111 Eaton St. is transformed into a showcase of art, photography and unique local handicrafts and gifts made exclusively in the Keys in one convenient location. Entertainment includes a singer and songwriter showcase, local authors, Key West Fringe theater performances, chef demonstrations, kid’s activities and live street art murals. Guests will be able to taste and buy local specialties, and enjoy concessions, beer and wine. Guests are encouraged to BYOB (bring your own bags).
