Second Annual Triple Crown of Key Largo Paddleboard Series
A sanctioned event by the World Paddle Association, this three-race stand up paddle board series is to be held September 21,22 and 29. Prizes are to be awarded the overall series winner and prizes to each individual race winner. For more information and course maps, contact PADDLE! the Florida Keys.

14th Annual Take Stock in Children Backcountry Challenge
For philanthropic anglers, this popular annual gathering proffers an important fundraising opportunity while fishing trout, snook and redfish. Proceeds benefit both local Rotary scholarships and Take Stock in Children, a statewide scholarship program for children in seventh through 12th grades.

Key Largo / September 27
Presented by the Friends of Key Largo Cultural Center, Thomas Lockyear from Islamorada’s History of Diving Museum is to present a brief history of Florida Keys Diving. Free and open to the public, the popular Ocean Life Series runs from 6-8 p.m. at Murray E. Nelson Government and Cultural Center, 102050 Overseas Highway (MM 102). Meet and greet at 6 p.m., program begins 7 p.m.

Islamorada / September 28
Join an on-the-water wacky charity golf tournament that brings together four-person teams to enjoy a game of nine holes by boat, to “drive” biodegradable golf balls toward floating greens – without any sand traps. A kick-off party and team registration is to be held Friday, Sept. 27. A live or silent auction as well as a 50/50 cash raffle also are planned. Teams tee off Saturday with shotgun start at 9 a.m. Proceeds benefit local Keys charities.

Islamorada / September 29
16th Annual Kids Fishing Derby
NO ENTRY FEE for this fun family event whose sole intent is to spark the interest in fishing and launching a passion for the outdoors in the Florida Keys. This is a great day for parents and family members to participate in fishing, sportsmanship and learning. The Derby is for Keys kids through age 10. There are three divisions: offshore, backcountry and shoreline. Entry forms at the Lorelei Restaurant (event headquarters); Tackle Center of Islamorada; or Caribee Boat Sales. Mangrove Mike’s will kick off the even on Sunday at 6:30AM with free coffee and donuts as anglers pick up their ditty bags and get ready to go fishing. Lines for fishing are in the water at 9 a.m. and the weigh scales close at 1 p.m.

Marathon / September 23 – 27
On each “Conchtoberfest Night” a Marathon restaurant is to host a uniquely themed and decorated event that includes food, specialty drinks and menu items. Highlights include Jamaican Me Crazy, Mexican, Oktoberfest and a Pirate Party. Pick a card each night at each venue and play for the best poker hand. Prizes to be awarded on Friday, Sept. 27. Proceeds each night are to help benefit a different local nonprofit or charity.
The Lower Keys:

The exhibit, ‘Depicting Hemingway: Guy Harvey Sketches The Old Man and the Sea’?? is to feature 59 original pen and ink drawings which follow the story line of Ernest Hemingway’s famous novel, The Old Man and the Sea. Widely recognized today as one of the world’s finest marine wildlife artists, Guy Harvey combines his unique artistic talents with his background as a marine biologist, diver, photographer and angler, to create magnificent marine wildlife art. Exhibit is to continue through November, at Key West Custom House, 281 Front Street.
