Islamorada / September 2
Matecumbe Historical Trust (MHT) presents a Labor Day service at the hurricane monument, at the Florida Keys’ memorial located at MM 81.5, oceanside. Each year tribute is paid to the more than 500 men, women and children who perished Sept. 2, 1935; service begins with an invocation, short service, as well as a brief history of the monument’s significance, a presentation of colors, the national anthem, placing of a wreath, taps and a benediction. The service is to start at 9 a.m.

Marathon / August 30 – September 1
Each fall, Hawks Cay Resort on Duck Key hosts an annual Heroes Welcome program to honor military, fire and rescue, law enforcement and medical personnel; a special Labor Day Weekend event is planned to include an All-American barbecue, heroes tribute, country music concert and fireworks show. Marathon / August 31
Bring your chairs, blankets, and enjoy the day participating in games, such as an adult Obstacle Course (must be 16 years or older); Children’s Obstacle Course (children of all ages); food and cold beverages all day. At 8 p.m., view a short movie premier of the “The Marathon Games, Round One,” a recap of a stylized Marathon-based competitive reality show that took place June 22-29 among a group of local and nationwide competitors in some of the Keys’ favorite sporting and water recreation events.
The Lower Keys:

Key West / April 6 – November 30
More than 40 species of fish are targeted during these months, with divisions for men, women, junior anglers (ages 10 to 14) and Pee Wees (under 10 years old).

Key West / August 1 – 30
Lucky Street is filled with paintings, wall sculptures, and photos displayed in a grid format throughout the gallery, inviting viewers to easily compare various works by artists to decide on a favorite. Take the time to explore the grids by a fabulous group of local artists. The ?Gridlock? Exhibition will be on display from Aug. 1 – 30, with Gallery hours Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at 540 Greene Street. Lucky Street will be closed for the month of September, and will reopen October 1, 2013.
Key West / August 29 – September 2
More than 150 beers and micro-brews are on to be tap at this “tasty” annual event that benefits the charitable efforts of the Key West Sunrise Rotary Club of the Conch Republic. Events from beer dinners, beer brunches, happy hour parties, pool parties, late-night parties, seminars and the Signature Tasting Festival Event are some of the great activities on tap.
Key West / September 3 – 8
Womenfest offers a wide range of activities guaranteed to appeal to a broad range of interests. Golfing with palm trees and iguanas, clothing-optional pool parties, a sizzling dance club scene, and women-only water excursions that range from jet skis to dolphin watching all promise to pique the interest of the more adventurous while film, live music, and special comedy shows offer the opportunity to enjoy paradise at a slower pace. All of this on a tropical island that is close to perfect and far from normal!

Key West / September 6 – 8
In the first of three tournaments in the annual Redbone Celebrity Tournament Series, also called The Trilogy, anglers target tarpon, permit and bonefish to achieve the coveted “flats grand slam.” The event raises funds for the fight against cystic fibrosis.
