The event provides a cultural pass for South Florida residents and visitors to experience the rich history of Key West by offering free or reduced admission to more than 20 participating museums, including Crane Point Museum & Nature Center, Pigeon Key, Harry S. Truman Little White House, Key West Aquarium, Key West Art and Historical Society at Custom House and many more. Attendees must log onto www.wlrn.org and click on the “Florida Keys & Key West Museum & Attractions Weekend” banner to print out the free weekend pass.

History of Diving Museum presents: Diving in the Movies

The History of Diving Museum at MM 83 continues the free, “Immerse Yourself!” series, to begin at 7 p.m., with a special event: From Jules Verne to James Cameron: A Short History of Diving in the Movies. Museum director Thomas Lockyear is to discuss the influences of diving on cinematic culture and technology, exploring films from Thunderball to the new Avatar 2. The Museum is open daily from 10am-5pm. Extended hours on the night of the program until 7pm. Enjoy the Museum’s exhibits before the event.

The Marathon Games Festival

Bring your chairs, blankets, and enjoy the day participating in games, such as an adult Obstacle Course (must be 16 years or older); Children’s Obstacle Course (children of all ages); food and cold beverages all day. At 8 p.m., view a short movie premier of the “The Marathon Games, Round One,” a recap of a stylized Marathon-based competitive reality show that took place June 22-29 among a group of local and nationwide competitors in some of the Keys’ favorite sporting and water recreation events.

Lucky Street Gallery presents: Gridlock Exhibition

Lucky Street is filled with paintings, wall sculptures, and photos displayed in a grid format throughout the gallery, inviting viewers to easily compare various works by artists to decide on a favorite. Take the time to explore the grids by a fabulous group of local artists. The ?Gridlock? Exhibition will be on display from Aug. 1 – 30, with Gallery hours Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at 540 Greene Street. Lucky Street will be closed for the month of September, and will reopen October 1, 2013.

Lionfish Safe Handling & Capture Workshop

Members of the dive public are invited to attend a free lionfish safe handling and capture workshop at 6:30 p.m. at the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center in Key West (35 East Quay Road). Learn about lionfish biology, research, and safe capture and handling techniques. This free workshop is required for a Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary permit to remove lionfish from Sanctuary Preservation Areas with hand nets.

More than 150 beers and micro-brews are on to be tap at this “tasty” annual event that benefits the charitable efforts of the Key West Sunrise Rotary Club of the Conch Republic. Events from beer dinners, beer brunches, happy hour parties, pool parties, late-night parties, seminars and the Signature Tasting Festival Event are some of the great activities on tap.
