Islamorada / August 15
Showcasing the fine arts, music and culinary nuances of the Purple Isles, the Morada Way Arts & Cultural District features national and local artisans who are showcased in galleries at Morada Way between mile marker 81 and 82 – formerly named Industrial Road – as well as “culinary art” and live music from 6-9 p.m. In addition to individual artists, participating galleries include the Redbone Gallery, Gallery Morada, Pasta Pantaleo Signature Gallery and Bluewater Potters. Free admission. Art Walk is held the third Thursday of each month.
Key Largo / August 15 – 18
Upper Keys reef sites have an abundance of marine life and fish, pleasing to all divers of all experience levels. Reef Crawl dive specials are to be held at a variety of dive operators in Islamorada and Key Largo. Visit website for more information.
Key Largo / August 16 – 17
Grab your oars and anything that floats and enjoy this family-fun festival – an on-the-water race of vessels crafted from items around the house – on Blackwater Sound, mile marker 104 bayside. A captains party is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at Señor Frijoles, MM 103.9 bayside. Saturday is race day, with team check-in beginning at 2 p.m. Race events begin at 3 p.m. and are free to enter and watch. Waterfront bars and restaurants offer excellent viewing areas for observing the race and enjoying a Keys sunset, with live music and more fun to follow.
Key Largo / August 18
“Ride It To Win It” Poker Run
To benefit the Upper Keys Wounded Warrior Dive and Deptherapy, offering veterans rehabilitation through scuba diving. The motorcycle ride (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) offers an opportunity to support the troops while having some fun! Five poker-hand stops include Alabama Jack’s (9-11 a.m.), Caribbean Club (10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.), Lorelei (noon to 2 p.m.), Pilot House (1:30-3 p.m.) and Gilbert’s (2:30-4:30 p.m.). Three hands for $20, $5 for each additional hand. First place hand wins $500, second place $200 and third place $100. Prize also for the worst hand.

Key West / August 1 – 30
Lucky Street is filled with paintings, wall sculptures, and photos displayed in a grid format throughout the gallery, inviting viewers to easily compare various works by artists to decide on a favorite. Take the time to explore the grids by a fabulous group of local artists. The ?Gridlock? Exhibition will be on display from Aug. 1 – 30, with Gallery hours Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at 540 Greene Street. Lucky Street will be closed for the month of September, and will reopen October 1, 2013.
Key West / August 16
Classical guitarist Martina Krause is to collaborate for an evening of live music and dance, alongside the Key West Contemporary Dance Co. for a special performance. Located at the Armory, 600 White Street. Starts at 8 p.m. Tickets atre $20, and available online.
Key West / August 17
Presented by the Florida Keys Eco Discovery Center, this family-friendly and educational series invites kids in kindergarten through fifth grade from 10-11 a.m. to play games and make crafts while learning about a new topic of interest and the marine ecosystems of the Keys. Discovery Saturday is held the third Saturday of every month. Pre-registration is recommended. The Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center is located at 35 East Quay Road on the Truman Annex waterfront in Key West. Admission is free and free parking is available.
