Islamorada / July 18
Showcasing the fine arts, music and culinary nuances of the Purple Isles, the Morada Way Arts & Cultural District features national and local artisans who are showcased in galleries at Morada Way between mile marker 81 and 82 – formerly named Industrial Road – as well as “culinary art” and live music from 6-9 p.m. In addition to individual artists, participating galleries include the Redbone Gallery, Gallery Morada, Pasta Pantaleo Signature Gallery and Bluewater Potters. Free admission. Art Walk is held the third Thursday of each month. This month, the Morada Way Arts & Cultural District will pay homage to Millard Wells by celebrating his artistic and generous life.
Key Largo / July 19
Presented by the Friends of Key Largo Cultural Center, Stephen Leatherman’s major research focus is storm impacts on coastal areas, particularly in relation to beach erosion and sea level rise. Dr. Leatherman will discuss these impacts, the science policy issues behind protecting these coastal areas, and federal responses. Free and open to the public, the popular Ocean Life Series runs from 6-8 p.m. at Murray E. Nelson Government and Cultural Center, 102050 Overseas Highway (MM 102). Meet and greet at 6 p.m., program begins 7 p.m.

Gay Key West Trolley Tour

Key West / April 6 – November 30
More than 40 species of fish are targeted during these months, with divisions for men, women, junior anglers (ages 10 to 14) and Pee Wees (under 10 years old). In an April kickoff event, anglers target 15 species and $5,000 in cash prizes is split between the top anglers.

Key West / May 4 – July 31
Key West ART Garden
Come enjoy large outdoor masterpieces made by local artists. Each piece is crafted from recycled materials and fits into the natural beauty and backdrop of the Gardens. On Saturday, May 4, an opening reception is planned, to highlight the special exhibit which runs through July; meet the artists and enjoy a self-guided tour, refreshments are to be available; free entry to the opening reception, set for 3-5 p.m. Located at 5210 College Road.
Key West / July 14 – 17
Anglers fly-fish on the flats in a challenge that honors the late angling pioneer Del Brown, who caught and released more than 500 permit off the Keys. Professionals and guides are allowed to compete as well.

Key West / July 16 – 21
The 33rd annual celebration of the legendary author’s work and lifestyle features literary readings, a theatrical premiere, short story competition, fishing tournament, Sloppy Joe’s Look-Alike Contest and a pre-birthday “party” commemorating Ernest’s July 21st birthday.

Key West / July 17 – 20
Anglers ply the waters once fished by novelist Ernest Hemingway, vying for $50,000 in guaranteed cash prizes. Held in conjunction with Key West’s annual Hemingway Days, the event awards $25,000 to the first-place team. Teams can enter one fun fish (dolphin, tuna, wahoo or released sailfish) per day to add to their point total.

Key West / July 18 – 20
This annual contest takes place at Sloppy Joe’s Bar, 201 Duval St., where Ernest Hemingway often enjoyed cocktails with cohorts. The event attracts look-alike contestants from around the United States and international locales to vie for the title of “Papa,” and is a highlight of the annual Hemingway Days celebration of the legendary author’s literary prowess and colorful lifestyle.
Key West / July 20
This is the original and oldest ongoing 5K Run in Key West and takes place as part of the the 33rd Annual Hemingway Days Festival. The race course is a scenic flat course that runs past Key West’s most famous landmarks including the Ernest Hemingway Home, the iconic Southernmost Point and the famous Green Parrot Bar! New this year, the Lazy Dog Paddle Board Race will take place before the 5K and kicks off at 6PM. The 4 mile paddle board challenge will start at the Beach by the Southernmost Beach Cafe. Those wishing to do both events will get a special award! Register now for either event for $37, discounts for kids under 15. Key West / July 20
Presented by the Florida Keys Eco Discovery Center, this family-friendly and educational series invites kids in kindergarten through fifth grade from 10-11 a.m. to play games and make crafts while learning about a new topic of interest and the marine ecosystems of the Keys. Discovery Saturday is held the third Saturday of every month. Pre-registration is recommended. The Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center is located at 35 East Quay Road on the Truman Annex waterfront in Key West. Admission is free and free parking is available.
