Islamorada / July 7

IFC Junior Dolphin Tournament

Just like the “big boys,” junior anglers up to age 18 can compete in this event, where the highest combined weight of three fish is to determine the winning team. Trophies are also awarded in various age groups for the largest fish.

Key Largo / July 9

REEF presents: A Fish & Friends Event

REEF, Fish & Friends and the Sanctuary Friends Foundation of the Florida Keys presents underwater photographers Carlos & Allison Estape, and “Diving Islamorada.” Presentation is located at the James E Lockwood REEF Headquarters, MM 98.3 in the Median. A social is planned at 6:30 p.m., and presentation is from 7-8 p.m.

Key Largo / July 10

REEF presents: FREE Lionfish Collecting and Handling Workshop

Learn about lionfish and obtain a permit to collect lionfish within the FKNMS SPAs (Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, Sanctuary Preservation Areas). Open to all divers and snorkelers, starts at 6:30 p.m. at REEF headquarters, MM 98.3 in the median. Workshop topics include the invasion, lionfish biology, ecological impacts, current research, collecting and handling, and more. Register online.

Islamorada / July 12 – 14

Islamorada Dolphin Tournament

Hosted by the Islamorada Charterboat Association, this annual event features $15,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs. Competition is open to all anglers and there is no limit on the number of anglers that can participate.

 Gay Key West Trolley Tour

Key West / April 6 – November 30

Key West Fishing Tournament

More than 40 species of fish are targeted during these months, with divisions for men, women, junior anglers (ages 10 to 14) and Pee Wees (under 10 years old). In an April kickoff event, anglers target 15 species and $5,000 in cash prizes is split between the top anglers.

Key West ART Garden

Come enjoy large outdoor masterpieces made by local artists. Each piece is crafted from recycled materials and fits into the natural beauty and backdrop of the Gardens. On Saturday, May 4, an opening reception is planned, to highlight the special exhibit which runs through July; meet the artists and enjoy a self-guided tour, refreshments are to be available; free entry to the opening reception, set for 3-5 p.m. Located at 5210 College Road.

Mel Fisher Days

This annual celebration brings together Mel Fisher fans and treasure-hunting enthusiasts in a celebration of the anniversary of Fisher’s discovery of the shipwrecked Spanish galleon Nuestra Senora de Atocha.

Del Brown Invitational Permit Tournament

Anglers fly-fish on the flats in a challenge that honors the late angling pioneer Del Brown, who caught and released more than 500 permit off the Keys. Professionals and guides are allowed to compete as well.
