The Florida Keys / October 15 – May 15
Stone Crab Season
Those succulent claws, brought to shore fresh daily from the waters surrounding the Florida Keys, will drip with mustard dip on the chins of hungry locals and visitors. A series of food festivals during the season celebrate the sustainable seafood resource throughout the Keys.
The Upper Keys:

Islamorada / December 5 – 6
A winner-take-all prize of up to $30,000, along with the prestigious Captain’s Cup, is to go to the top boat team – each team is allowed up to four anglers per boat. The guaranteed cash prize is based upon the number of boats registered for the one-day event; for a field of 15 registered boats the top payout is to be $20,000, for a field of 20 boats, payout increases to $25,000 and a full field of 30 registered boats ensures a grand prize of $30,000. The all-release tournament is limited to 30 boats. Entry fee $2,500 per boat for first two anglers; third angler is $300, fourth angler $200.

Islamorada / December 7
This is a multi-species, inshore and offshore boat tournament, hosted at La Siesta Resort and Marina. The format allows anglers to register as an individual or as a team on either a local professionally guided boat or private boat. Awards are given in both divisions based on total points for caught fish. Registration includes captains meeting, breakfast at the dock before fishing, goodie bag, fishing in the tournament, BBQ and awards after fishing. There is also to be a raffle during the BBQ! Bring the whole family to celebrate the festivities.

Don Gurgiolo Sailfish Classic
Part of the acclaimed Redbone at Large series of tournaments, this all-release tournament offers anglers a chance to pursue sailfish in Captain Don’s memory. Up to four anglers can fish per boat.

Islamorada / December 7
This extravaganza begins with a tree-lighting ceremony at Founders Park, MM 87. A holiday parade follows, featuring Santa, food, kids activity booths and live “on stage” performances. A mountain of snow is the favorite among mitten-clad munchkins.
Key Largo / December 8
Blackwater Sound is to shimmer as decorated boats parade along the shoreline in celebration of the holiday season, as illuminated boats from 55-foot yachts to single-person kayaks set sail about 7:30 p.m. The best viewing and libations are to be found at Sundowners, Senor Frijoles, the Marriott Key Largo Bay Resort and Caribbean Club, MM 103-104. Boats are invited to deck their hulls, light up their boats and join in the fun. Newly elected Florida State Representative Holly Raschein is to be the Grand Marshall.

Islamorada / December 8
Postcard Inn at Holiday Isle Resort and Marina and Green Stride Races are hosting a fun and competitive 5K over a flat, fast and certified course that is expected to attract and welcome runners of all levels. The theme of this Keys style race will incorporate rumrunner samples along the course at various bars and restaurants including Whale Harbor, Island Grill and Hog Heaven. At the finish line, you will be given a full size rumrunner, courtesy of PCI at Holiday Isle. The out-and-back loop course will finish just steps from the sandy beach at Rum Runners Island Bar at the Postcard Inn. Immediately following the race will be a party with food, live music and cool prizes.

When Bridget decides to spend the summer before law school with her sweet grandmother it turns into an experience she’ll never forget. She has to keep it secret from the landlord who wants to evict her, as well as the handsome policeman who is smitten by her granddaughter and regularly checks in on Nana. Marathon / December 8
A middle Keys holiday kick-off event for more than 15 years; watch as dinghies, mega-yachts and anything in between turn the harbor into a sparkling procession along the parade route. Best viewing sites include Lazy Days South, Marathon Marina, Sombrero Dockside Lounge and Burdine’s Waterfront. Starts at dusk, near 5 p.m.

Live holiday music, games for the kids, holiday cheer and a chance for photos with Santa highlight this event along the historic harbor walk linking colorful seaport restaurants, bars and businesses at the Key West Bight. Created as a gift to the community, the gala is produced by the Key West Bight Preservation Association and tenants of the Key West Bight.
Key West / December 1 – March 23
This stunning art exhibit showcases the work of leading contemporary sculptors at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park and the Key West Garden Club at West Martello Tower. Twenty-three contemporary sculptures and two performances are planned to enhance the land and seascapes around two historic Civil War-era forts. Among the projected highlights of the 2012/2013 exhibition are a steel and wood skeletal structure that is part animal, ship, airplane and sleigh, a massive monumental concrete relic of a shell from a world unknown, a mysterious array of manhole covers that seem to melt in the sun and the long awaited Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail Unicycle Tour! South Florida’s top nurseries are to show bromeliads, orchids, fruit trees, palms, tropical flowers and natives at the Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden’s annual plant sale. Other attractions include landscaping workshops, garden supplies booths, and arts and crafts and docent tours.

The island city shows its holiday spirit with this annual hometown parade, set to start at 7 p.m. Featuring marching groups and motorized and nonmotorized floats, the festive procession traditionally draws entries from churches, civic organizations, businesses and neighborhood and school groups. Starting at Truman Avenue and White Street, it proceeds down Truman to Duval, where it takes a right and continues on to Eaton Street.
Big Pine & the Lower Keys / December 8
HOLIDAY ARTS AND CRAFTS SHOW
Artists in Paradise presents a Holiday Arts and Crafts show at OUT OF THE BLUE, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at MM 30 in Big Pine Key. Paintings in acrylics, watercolors and oils are to be offered as well as greeting cards, jewelry and much more. They will also feature their famous bake sale.
