Spiny Lobster Mini-Season
Each year, the lobster mini-season falls on the last consecutive Wednesday and Thursday in July. The 2012 mini-season opens at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday and closes at midnight on Thursday. Regular lobster season always begins Aug. 6 and closes March 31.

More than 40 species of fish are targeted during these months, with divisions for men, women, junior anglers (ages 10 to 14) and Pee Wees (under 10 years old). In a March kickoff event, anglers target 15 species and $5,000 in cash prizes is split between the top anglers.

The 32nd celebration of the legendary author’s work and lifestyle features literary readings, a theatrical premiere, short story competition, fishing tournament, Sloppy Joe’s Look-Alike Contest and a pre-birthday “party” commemorating Ernest’s July 21st birthday.

Key West / July 24
Symphony of the Americas Summerfest Concert
Impromptu Classical Concerts presents this annual Summerfest performance, dubbed a cultural exchange that features the Mission Chamber Orchestra based in Rome. The chamber orchestra’s musical range is from Baroque to Contemporary, but under the baton of Symphony Artistic Director, James Brooks Bruzzese, old masters such as Bach and Corelli, Borodin and Mendelssohn will fill the sanctuary. A special highlight of the 2012 Summerfest program will be a world premier by Italian composer and pianist, Lorenzo Turchi-Floris. Show begins at 8 p.m. at St. Paul’s Church on Duval Street. Tickets to the concert are $20, free to all students and available at the church door the evening of the performance.
